Women's Wellness Workshop 1: Nourishing Meals

  • 901 North Marsh Road Brodhead, WI, 53520 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Since the very beginning of our farm, Kyle and I have always believed in prioritizing our health and wellness alongside growing our business. It hasn’t always been easy and we certainly haven’t always succeeded, but we keep trying to discover new and nourishing ways to care for ourselves. Luckily, we have found dozens of incredible mentors along the way: teachers who have helped us to heal, reflect, nourish ourselves and just generally learn how to live well. We are thrilled to bring many of these beautiful teachers together for you all at our farm this fall.

Our Women’s Wellness series is a trio of workshops held from 1-4:30 p.m. every-other Saturday beginning September 21st. Each with its own unique focus (nourishing meals, introduction to herbalism, and digestive bitters), each session will include a short workshop, a yoga class, time to reflect and set intentions, and beautiful views of our fields. Some workshops will also send you home with goodies to use on your own wellness journey at home.

Our Women’s Wellness event series is your opportunity to learn how to care for yourself. It’s your moment to step away and just savor this life. It’s your moment of stillness.

WORKSHOP FLOW:

1 p.m. Intro & Welcome

1:15 p.m. Yoga with Peggy Frain of True Nature Yoga

Peggy Frain will guide you through mindful breath work a full-spectrum yoga practice designed to rejuvenate a connection with your sense of self-appreciation and wellness. She has taught alignment-focused, heart-centered yoga for over 9 years and has been practicing for close to 17. Peggy opened True Nature Yoga Studio in Evansville’s historic downtown in 2012, later converting it to Evansville Mindfulness Coop. Though the space has changed hands, she teaches classes there on Wednesday evenings. Peggy also teaches yoga to female inmates at Dane County Jail and started the Yoga & Mindfulness program at Rock County Juvenile Detention Center, a program still in use today.

2 p.m. Raleigh’s Hillside Farm tour & harvest

2:30 p.m. Nourishing meals class with Kristen Martinek of Enjoy This Organic Life

During Kristen’s workshop, attendees will learn what it entails to nourish ourselves intuitively and shift our diets according to the seasons and our cycles. Kristen will go through each phase of our cycles and discuss how it alters hormones; subsequently changing our energy levels & dietary requirements. Attendees will learn ways to connect with and listen to their body and how to holistically support their individual needs through their dietary and movement choices.

Kristen Martinek is deeply passionate about holistic wellness, living simply, mindfully and sustainably, and stewarding the Earth and her relationships with gentle consciousness. After studying nutrition in her undergraduate, Kristen felt there to be a strong disconnect between how government funded nutrition was being taught & implemented, to how she intuitively viewed heath. It was from this disconnect that led her on a journey of exploring health from the ground up, starting on an organic farm in Hawaii. It was there Kristen began to connect with Health on an intuitive, holistic and inclusive level. The seed had been planted here, however, her journey was not linear. After exploring so many different self-imposed dietary approaches, from vegetarian, to vegan, to raw vegan... Kristen came to realize years later nutrition is not about just the foods we consume (and don’t). True health comes from embodying the notion that one diet does not fit all, that one diet does not fit one person necessarily from season to season and as women, our food choices vary throughout the month according to our cycles. When we let go of labels, of the “shoulds” and reconnect with what our bodies are truly asking for, we step into one of the most sacred parts of nourishing our Womanhood. Kristen worked for Raleigh’s Hillside Farm in 2018.

WORKSHOP FLOW:

1 p.m. Intro & Welcome

1:15 p.m. Introduction to Herbalism workshop with Stephanie Mullis of Holistic Medicinals

In this workshop you will learn how to grow and forage some basic medicinal herbs as well as how to utilize them. Stephanie will go over how to properly identify and harvest these plants, the benefits and any cautions they may have, as well as some easy to use techniques to incorporate them into your life. We will do a farm walk of Raleigh’s Hillside Farm and see what herbs we are able to identify! We will be making two herbal preparations: an herbal long infusion and an herbal vinegar for you to take home. A reference packet will also be provided to support you in your herbal journey going forward!

Stephanie is a farmer and holistic health practitioner. She has been in the holistic health field for 8 years with expertise in massage therapy, energy work, aromatherapy and herbalism. Her and her partner own Holistic Harvest, a small veggie farm supplying restaurants and farmers markets. On this property she also runs Holistic Medicinals, which is focused on herb growing, herbal education and herbal products. She has a passion for plant medicine, spirituality, and connecting with this beautiful planet.

2:45 p.m. Yoga with Jamie Healy

Jamie teaches an Align + Flow yoga class. This style of class emphasizes safe alignment, as well as incorporates a slow flow that will feel both grounding and invigorating. Expect a heart-centered practice that will connect you with your body and your breath. Jamie’s class is suitable for all levels, from the absolute beginner to the well-seasoned yoga practitioner.

Jamie Healy first discovered yoga back in 2002 while living in Seattle as a new college graduate. As a young adult, with no clear career direction or sense of purpose, she struggled with overwhelm and anxiety. On the yoga mat she found she was able to slow life down as she began to witness and appreciate the present moment through intentional focus, movement and breath. She has a deep respect for the ability of the human body to heal itself and has seen firsthand what a consistent yoga practice can do to calm the mind and deepen the connection to self and others.

Jamie received her first 200-hour RYT certification from Perennial Yoga & Meditation in 2014, and her second certification from RajaHatha School of Yoga in 2018. Jamie teaches at The Yoga Sangha within Capital Fitness in Madison, WI, as well as in corporate wellness programs. She also offer workshops and retreats, as well as yoga privates, reiki, and chakra balancing. She can be found on Facebook under Jamie Healy:: Yoga and on Instagram as jamiehealylivenaturally.
